Herefordshire primary care trust has dropped High Court legal proceedings to place a 13-year-old patient who refuses to have a heart transplant under a child protection order.

Hannah Jones was told by medics she needed the operation after treatment for leukaemia left her with a hole in her heart. However, she has refused the transplant, saying she wants to spend the rest of her life at home.

A child protection officer told the court Ms Jones had convinced him she had made the decision by herself, did not take it lightly and wanted to die with dignity.

The PCT was unable to provide a comment.
