I agree with Crispin Glover that the fight against racism starts at the top.

In central Manchester, where we have a rich and diverse ethnic population similar to Lambeth and Southwark, our primary care trust chair is a black African woman.

Our non-executives are a mix of people who are of African Caribbean, South Asian, Irish and English origin. Equally, our professional executive committee reflects a rich ethnic mix.

It can be done, and we feel that we are already benefiting from positively promoting equality top-down and bottom-up.
