The need for primary care group nurses to be supported in undertaking strategic and leadership roles (letters, 1 July) is recognised by the education and training consortia of Inner and West London.

These consortia have funded and are supporting a range of programmes for thoseinvolved in PCGs, on the boards, as potential board members as part of succession planning and as workers in them.

These programmes include PCG board skills, learning sets and workshops, public health, and workforce planning and development.

Health authorities and community trusts are working together, both through the consortia and locally, toprovide training and support to PCGs as they take on the challenges and opportunities of the New NHS.
