Derek Wanless emphasises that 'an essential element of 'full engagement' is the recognition that the greatest contribution to public health is made by individuals in the wider public health workforce, many of whom have job titles that do not mention ''public health''. But it is interesting to note that very little reference is made to who these people are. Similarly, the contribution of local authorities receives relatively minor analysis.

Wanless mentions the positive contribution that walking and cycling can make to good health but fails to mention that a safe and affordable public transport system is an essential part of that equation.
