The UK lags behind other developed nations in stroke care and England is a long way from meeting its own targets, according to a report by the Health Foundation.

The charity's report, to be published on Monday, includes data on performance, best practice and cost implications. It shows the UK achieved a 16 per cent decrease in mortality from 1997-2004, whereas Germany saw a 33 per cent reduction.
