Patient organisations, as your article on the modernisation board (news focus, pages 12-13, 26 October) confirms, play an increasingly important role in healthcare policy. Might I clarify that there are a number of nondisease specific bodies, each with a specific focus. The Long-term Medical Conditions Alliance, the umbrella body for 111 voluntary health organisations, is one.

The suggestion by the Patients Association in your article that it is the only non-disease specific organisation does not give the true picture of the wealth of knowledge and experience in broadly based organisations.
