Worcestershire Acute Hospitals trust has stopped carrying out all routine elective surgery until next wednesday due to "unrelenting" pressure on resources.

Chief executive John Rostill said the problem was not just the high number of patients but the fact they were very ill. Forty-five patients have had their operations cancelled.

Ten patients have been moved from Worcester to Kidderminster for their medical care. The trust is also talking to the private sector about using beds and theatre capacity.
