Devon Partnership Trust and Royal Devon and Exeter FT: Connecting Physical and Mental Health Services in Gastroenterology

The Gastroenterology Big Room was established between Devon Partnership Trust and Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust to improve the dedicated mental health support for gastroenterology patients. Gastroenterology patients with chronic and functional conditions often also suffer from mental health conditions. Holistic assessment and treatment impacts positively on both physical and mental conditions – often helping to reduce investigations and admissions. The project therefore focused on providing dedicated support to help patients and acute staff understand the connection between mental and physical health and increase access to care to ensure patient safety and improve quality of life.
