Dr Richard Barker has been director general of the ABPI since 2004 but plans to step down next year. He pushes the case for maintaining a healthy clinical research base within the UK because it is good for both the UK economy and the NHS. He also argues that it is important to regulate the import and export activities of pharmaceutical wholesalers to ensure the UK has a robust medicines supply chain.
