FINANCE: Pennine Acute Hospitals missed their surplus target for the first four months of 2012-13 by £1.9m, latest strategic health authority board papers state.

PAHT’s actual recorded surplus to the end of July was just £5,000, according to SHA cluster NHS North of England’s September finance report.

The report states that the underachievement is mainly due to the trust’s “non-delivery” of its planned cost improvement programme savings, and that PAHT has reduced its forecast surplus for the full year “by a similar amount”.

It adds: “The underlying financial position of PAHT is under review by the new Director of Finance and will result in a reduced year end surplus.”
