PERFORMANCE: Pennine Acute Hospitals Trust has reported that it is on course to meet 38 of the 43 performance indicators in its 2012-13 business plan, but has failed in its objective to have zero “never events” in the year.

Its first quarter Business Plan update stated: “In general the progress to the end of quarter one is excellent with 38 of the 43 standards on track to be achieved at the end of the year. This includes the key indicators on mortality, VTE assessments, falls and pressure sores.”

However, it added: “There are challenges. For example there has been one never event in Medicine in May, so this objective has been failed for the year and the number of cases of Clostridium Difficile is above the trajectory for quarter one although this trend is being reversed.”

The report stated that the trust had seen 34 incidences of C. Difficile for the quarter, against a target of no more than 20.
