STRUCTURE: Building work on a new £44m women and children’s unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital is ahead of schedule, say managers.

The development includes a brand new neonatal intensive care unit, which will make the hospital one of three regional centres providing the highest level of intensive care to vulnerable new babies.

The four-storey building is due to open in two phases with the lower and upper ground floors up and running by November and the rest of the building open by the end of the year.

The trust has launched a local appeal to raise £200,000 towards new equipment for the unit.
