WORKFORCE: Salisbury Foundation Trust has recruited 47 nurses from Portugal to address Care Quality Commission concerns about staffing.

A report to June’s board from chief executive Peter Hill said the CQC had found minor concerns with staffing and record keeping when inspectors visited earlier this year.

As well as recruiting additional nurses, who were due to start by the end of July, the trust has also developed a range of workforce indicators that the board can use to monitor vacancy rates and will also look at staffing levels twice-daily through site management meetings.

Mr Hill said: “In terms of patient records, it is important that we maintain the right balance between the need to ensure that these are available
and accessible at ward level and that we protect patient confidentiality.

“We will be introducing opaque privacy sheets, which will be attached to the front of observation drug charts.”
