The panel explored how digital solutions might help clinicians improve patient safety and what barriers there might be along the way

Matthew Shaw – who is the trust’s former medical director as well as its current chief executive – joined a debate exploring whether digital technology can help embed a strong patient safety culture.

Joining Mr Shaw on the panel were Adam Thomas, chief information officer at The Dudley Group Foundation Trust; and John Zaleski, head of clinical informatics at Capsule Technologies, which supported the webinar.

The issue of safety is – rightly – never far from the headlines, and that includes in the midst of a pandemic. Despite scandals over quality of care in recent years, it is clear that embedding a strong culture of safety throughout the health service is a constant and continuing mission. In a debate chaired by HSJ contributor Claire Read, the panel explored how digital solutions might help clinicians improve patient safety and what barriers there might be along the way.

The webinar, which was entirely free to join, took place from 4pm to 4.45pm on Monday, 7 December 2020.
