SERVICES: Princess Alexandra Hospital is setting up a text message service in a bid to reduce missed appointments.
Last year some clinics had DNA rates of 30 per cent. The trust says sending a text message a few days before an appointment asking patients to confirm whether or not they will be attending can significantly reduce DNA and late cancellation rates.
When asked why they have missed an appointment, patients’ reasons have ranged from hot dates to getting their hair dyed.
Batsi Katsande, Head of Operations said: “For most, a quick reminder is all that is needed, however sometimes patients feel that their planned visit to the hospital is no longer necessary. In those instances we hope to prompt early cancellations so someone on the waiting list can be offered the slot.”
