Councils not prepared for ageing population - Audit Commission

Councils are not prepared to meet the needs of their ageing population, a report from the Audit Commission says today.The commission used a 'mystery shopper' exercise to test how well councils dealt with the demands of over-50s for services such as leisure and transport. It found that those facing the biggest rises in the proportion of elderly residents were least able to offer suitable services.
