NHS Salford has devised an innovative knowledge sharing chat via Twitter to discuss the use of social media within the NHS.

Known as #NHSsm, the chat is open to anyone interested in the use of social media within the NHS to discuss best practice and highlight case studies.

Run by communications manager Alex Talbott, the #NHSsm community meets every Monday lunchtime between 12 and 1pm.

Questions are submitted to @nhssm and then discussed with input from individuals inside and outside of the NHS.

Alex Talbott said: “Our work shows social media needn’t be expensive or complex to work. We would very much like NHS staff to join in.

“By using Twitter as a platform to explore what the NHS is doing with social media, we hope to enable the NHS to utilise social media’s fantastic potential.”
