HSJ was last night named business media brand of the year at the PPA Awards, considered the ‘Oscars’ of the UK magazine sector.

There was also success for HSJ Intelligence, HSJ’s data and insight service, which won business media digital innovation of the year, at a ceremony in London last night.

The PPA judges said HSJ “was a truly deserved winner of the prestigious title of the PPA business media brand of the year”. They added: “This is a pioneering title and one that truly sets the pace in an increasingly competitive field.”

On HSJ Intelligence, the judges said they were “impressed by the development of HSJ Intelligence, a product described as successfully reinventing the B2B business model”.

HSJ correspondent Will Hazell was named MJA young journalist of the year

They praised the “clear proposition and strong operational structure” and called it “a truly intelligent and innovative product and a well deserved winner of the PPA digital innovation award for business media 2015”.

Meanwhile, HSJ correspondent Will Hazell was named young journalist of the year at the Medical Journalists’ Association summer awards last night.

The MJA judges said he “showed an inquiring mind, the ability to handle sources, conduct interviews and secure exclusives”. They added: “The high number of reader comments [on his stories] showed that the issues Will tackled were topical.”

HSJ correspondent Sophie Barnes was shortlisted in the same category and was commended for her “thorough investigative reporting” and identified as “clearly one to watch” by the judges.

Shaun Lintern, HSJ correspondent, was shortlisted for specialist journalist of the year. He was commended by the judges for “the impact his stories had”, including those which “helped to change policy”.
