National board will hire consortia leads and guide pay

The NHS commissioning board will approve the leaders of consortia – and issue guidance to limit how much they are paid, the health bill suggests.

The bill published today sets out few requirements in relation to governance and makeup of consortia.

However, it confirms the commissioning board, when authorising practices to form consortia, will decide whether the person they want as their accountable officer is “appropriate”.

The board will have the power to appoint accountable officers and will be able to pick one individual to cover more than one consortium.

One of the few details outlined is consortia may be required to publish “prescribed information relating to the remuneration” of its staff; and that the national board, “may publish guidance for commissioning consortia on the determination of remuneration”.

  • First bit of bad news really - DH OBN (Old Boy Network) will be in top gear here. What a shame - I knew it was too good to last!

Some of those already 'hand-picked' for top jobs in new organisations - like the commissioning board - must be relishing the opportunity to give the nod and wink to their old pals...

    Hey-ho!

  • Actually it could be good news. But....I'm working for a Pathfinder Consortia and we're desparate for a bit of help or guidance on remuneration levels. Can we get any help from DoH or SHA ? can we heck as like. The very time when they should actually provide some usefuol central steer, and they've gone to play with their QIPPs. Pathetic.
