FINANCE: Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust is predicting an overspend on senior medical staff of more than £1m for the year.
Additional analysis on medical locum and agency spend shows that the financial pressures are mainly in services for adults of working age.
Consultant locum and agency spend has remained fairly constant - equating to about £1.5m in a full year. However this masks a clear reduction in use within acute services. This is offset by an increase in consulation and advocacy promotion services, which is driven largely by the creation of five full time equivalent consultant posts following a review of skill mix.
This position is currently being reviewed by the Medical Directorate in view of current commissioning intentions to reduce funding.
Middle grade locum and agency spend has virtually halved from levels seen earlier on his year.
