Andrew Meggs, directorate accountant, East Sussex Hospitals trust, and UK Independence Party parliamentary candidate for Eastbourne

The one major issue I wanted to raise following your feature on health service managers standing in the election predictably concerns the EU ('Poll position', pages 20-23, 31 March). None of the candidates mentioned made note of the fact that most of our laws are actually made in the EU and then implemented through Westminster.

To a larger and larger extent the major drivers of what affects us locally are decided abroad. That is the nub of the UKIP argument, that the European agenda is all about who controls the UK.

Increasingly, this control is being handed over to unelected bureaucrats, over whom we have no control or sanction.
