Siemens Healthcare Services is conducting a 'full strategy review' of all its products, including the flagship Open-PAS patient administration system. A spokesperson said all aspects of the company's business operations were being examined by the new managing director, Robin Williams, who arrived in a shake-up last month. Siemens will announce the outcome in early July.
SMS has made two of its senior UK staff redundant in an attempt to redirect resources away from the NHS market to the Northern European region. The posts affected are those of UK national sales manager and the general manager of Irish operations.
The NHS Executive will this month award the contract for the national strategic tracing service (NSTS) to search for patients' NHS numbers. The shortlist consists of IBM, SEMA, and HBO. Delivery is scheduled for the beginning of 1999. NSTS is the long-term successor to the initial tracing service already set up by AT&T.
MDIS has won a pounds2.6m contract to supply the Express patient management system to a consortium of 12 Scottish trusts. The five-year agreement with the Scottish Health Service User Group includes a help desk and use of Cognos's Impromptu database query language. First deliveries begin this month to Borders General Hospital.
