Referral to treatment times for April show that the number of patients being treated in 18 weeks is rising.

The proportion of treatment within the target time was up to 51 per cent in April from 48 per cent in March.

Geriatric medicine had the highest success in meeting the target, at 88 per cent. Trauma and orthopaedics had the lowest, with 27 per cent of patients treated within 18 weeks.

When broken down by strategic health authority area, NHS West Midlands is making the most progress towards hitting the target, with 60 per cent of patients being treated within 18 weeks. NHS South East Coast is bottom of the list with 34 per cent.

The total percentage of patients with known start dates to be treated within 18 weeks is now available for all SHAs.
