While there is still a long way to go on the issue of medical secretaries' pay and recognition, our experience is that a growing number of trusts and GP practices are recognising the value of properly training medical secretaries, and other practice staff, and are prepared to add that value to their salaries.

It is also encouraging to us as a nationally recognised awarding body that hospitals are starting to ask for approval as centres running AMSPAR's range of qualifications.

We frequently see adverts specifying an AMSPAR qualification as a job requirement. This can only help to increase the standing of medical secretaries as valued members of the healthcare team.
