A new strategy to eliminate Chagas disease by 2010 will be launched by the World Health Organisation.

The plan is designed to answer key questions about the treatment and control of Chagas disease and to co-ordinate global efforts to prevent its transmission through a new global network for Chagas elimination.

Chagas disease is a potentially life-threatening illness that can lead to chronic debilitation caused by progressive destruction of the heart muscle.
