WINNER: Innovation Agency NWC: Atrial Fibrillation Ambassadors in the Community

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is an irregular heartbeat which can lead to severe strokes and death and has a high prevalence in the North West Coast region. Symptoms can be dismissed, leading to low levels of detection and treatment as patients are often unaware they should be tested. The AF Ambassador programme tackled this by providing training, equipment and support to the public and other organisations to increase testing opportunities, ensuring every contact counts. The ambassadors test pulses and provide information to the public on a peer to peer basis at a variety of events in their own communities.
