WORKFORCE: Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust consultant in emergency psychiatry Julian Beezhold has been elected unanimously as secretary general of the European Psychiatric Association.
Mr Beezhold will serve as part of the executive committee within the board that oversees the day to day running of the organisation. The association hosts the annual European Congress of Psychiatry, which attracts almost 5,000 delegates from over 70 countries.
A trust statement said: “A member of the Association for nine years, Julian was the lead writer for its new constitution adopted unanimously last year at an Extraordinary General Assembly.
“This has led to 33 national associations, including the Royal College of Psychiatrists, joining the previously individual member EPA to form the largest psychiatric organisation in Europe with over 40,000 members.
“For the first time in the association’s history, its 18-strong board includes two members from the UK, namely Julian, and Sue Bailey, President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.”
