East of England Cancer Alliance: Closing The Gap on Cancer Waits in the East of England

Having become a national outlier, the East of England Cancer Alliance and six integrated care boards, covering a population of 6.5 million, launched a data-driven Faster Diagnosis of Cancer Project to reduce waiting times for NHS patients. Rapid Cancer Action Teams of subject matter experts undertook deep-dive data analysis, held workshops and shared good practice to reduce unwarranted variation. For the first time ever, the East of England met the Faster Diagnosis Standard – and the rate of improvement today compared to before the project took place has been almost double that seen nationally.
