WINNER: Group of Trainers for Clinical Associates in Psychology - Establishing and Training a New Psychology Workforce for the NHS: University of East Anglia and University of Plymouth and Partners

The NHS needs to increase the psychology workforce by 60 per cent by 2024, yet in England in 2020 only 18 per cent of psychology graduates were accepted on to clinical psychology courses via traditional training routes. The universities’ vision is to build a new, sizeable, sustainable, and diverse psychology workforce.

The Group of Trainers for Clinical Associates in Psychology (GTiCAP) has developed and established a new masters level degree apprenticeship psychology training for the NHS. GTiCAP now comprises 10 training providers, training CAPS in six NSH England regions. Four hunded and twenty CAPs are either qualified or in training, making a significant differences to NHS systems across England.

The judges recognised this as an accessible training pathway that embeds widening participation and demonstrable benefit to communities. This is workforce transformation and has recognisable service benefit across systems and MDTs.
