Central and North West London FT: North Central London Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) Programme
The programme was established to support the routine rollout of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis on the NHS in Barnet, Camden, Haringey and Islington. Established by CNWL, the local provider of sexual health services, the programme developed a health-inequities-informed strategy that prioritises target demographics on the basis of PrEP need (the gap between HIV transmissions and PrEP uptake), adopting a bespoke approach to PrEP promotion for each group.
As a provider-led initiative, delivered on the basis of user involvement principles, it facilitated the amplification of patient and community voices, allowing these to influence both health promotion approaches and service design. The judges were impressed by this initiative that has the potential to spread on a regional, national, and international basis.
