Western Sussex Hospitals Foundation Trust: Western Sussex Patient First Programme

Western Sussex recognises that the strength of its hospitals lies in its staff, and has built an organisational culture that empowers teams and individuals to make lasting changes that benefit its patients and community through its Patient First Programme – its bespoke approach to sustaining a culture of continuous improvement.

It has developed a Patient First Improvement System – its Lean management system, developing staff to solve problems and improve performance. Its staff focuses on key improvement initiatives aimed at delivering 100 per cent harm free care.

The judges said this organisation demonstrated to the judges aspirational and authentic leadership at every level. There was a deep commitment to continuous quality and safety improvement.

HSJ Patient Safety Awards honour Manchester terror attack staff

NHS staff who were part of the response to the Manchester Arena bombing were honoured by the great and the good of the health service at HSJ’s annual Patient Safety Congress last night.
