WINNER: Innovation in International Recruitment: NHS Professionals International And Pan Mersey

To address the shortage of nurses and adult mental health/specialist nurses across Merseyside during covid and beyond, NHSP International (NHSPI) worked in partnership with the Pan Mersey group to form a collaboration of 11 trusts to pool resources and achieve a challenging recruitment goal.

NHSPI were able to achieve an exceptional outcome, exceeding expectations and delivering all candidates required. Results included: the successful recruitment of over 1,000 international healthcare professionals, supporting the set up of three dedicated, in-house OSCE training hubs and an innovative, bespoke, pastoral offering. This resulted in a cost-effective recruitment model which delivered a 98 per cent retention rate.

The judges deemed this project to be best practice in pastoral care support and said it demonstrates effective use of data to improve processes using a continuous improvement methodology to review their approach and improve practices.
