The Well Farmers for Wiltshire pilot addressed rural health inequalities by bringing preventive healthcare services directly to Salisbury Livestock Market. Developed in partnership with farmers and backed by 14 system partners, the programme offered health screenings, mental health support, and social care guidance in an environment where farmers felt comfortable and trusted.

The initiative achieved significant clinical outcomes, identifying six cases of early-stage cancer and enabling multiple urgent medical interventions. Crucially, it reached individuals who had previously been disengaged from traditional healthcare services, improving access for a typically hard-to-reach population.

Despite operating with minimal funding, the pilot delivered exceptional value for money while strengthening collaboration between different sectors. The programme has established a foundation for sustainable, community-led healthcare delivery and is now informing broader strategic planning and engagement approaches across the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) Integrated Care System and other areas.
