North Central London’s Dental Transformation Programme demonstrates the potential impact when dental care receives proper prioritisation and local leadership. The integrated care board has committed recurring funding and reinvested NHS dental underspend into both primary and community dental services, enabling the co-development of targeted initiatives that are improving dental outcomes for children and young people.

The programme operates through close collaboration with Whittington Community Dental Service, local authorities, public health teams, schools, and charitable organisations. This partnership approach focuses on early prevention and reaching the most vulnerable populations.

The initiative illustrates how collaborative, community-focused interventions can deliver meaningful improvements in children’s and young people’s health outcomes.
