NHSE - One NHS Finance
NHS Finance Insights Placement Scheme

One NHS Finance is submitting the NHS Finance Insights placement scheme for Workforce Initiative of the Year. This national programme, launched in 2023, is designed to attract young people into the NHS by offering paid, year-long finance placements to individuals aged 18 and over from low-income backgrounds who are not attending university.

The scheme addresses a critical gap by removing barriers for those without existing professional networks, providing essential training and clear career progression routes within NHS finance. What began as a pilot programme with just five participants has expanded significantly – 38 trainees joined in 2024 across more than 40 NHS organisations, with a further 29 set to start in 2025.

The initiative reflects core NHS values of inclusion, development and creating opportunities for all, while helping to build a more diverse pipeline of finance professionals across the health service.
