#RootOutRacism (Anti-Racism Movement)

West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership and the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit launched an anti-racism movement in August 2022. Co-created by more than 100 ethnic minority colleagues to proactively challenge racism across all aspects of society, the movement is part of an ongoing commitment to tackle structural and institutionalised racism, as well as addressing health and social inequalities across the area.

The movement, a recommendation from the partnership’s independent review in October 2020 into the impact of covid on health inequalities, was developed with all organisations. More than 580 organisations/community allies came forward to pledge their support. This campaign was courageous and well thought out, with excellent campaign materials devised through real insight and told through the first-person accounts of real people with lived experience, said the judges.

They were impressed by the scale and ambition, notably the backing of so many partners across the ICS.
