Lib Dem Gordon Birtwistle has taken Burnley.
Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg had visited Burnley, saying the party had a “firm commitment” to restoring the accident and emergency facility at Burnley Hospital.
Mr Clegg told a meeting in the Labour stronghold savings could be made elsewhere in the NHS to restore the service at the general, run by East Lancashire Hospitals Trust.
