Shadow health minister pledging fresh look at hospital configuration elected

Mike Penning has retained Hemel Hempstead for the Conservatives, leading to a potential conflict with Andrew Lansley.

The Conservative MP has said he would “always fight” for an acute hospital for the area, something critics say contradicts plans for a new “health campus” in Watford, which Mr Lansley supports.

West Hertforshire Hospitals Trust runs services at Watford and St Albans.
