Warwickshire result casts doubt on NHS reconfiguration proposals

Chris White has won Warwick and Leamington for the Tories, casting further doubt on proposals to centralise specialist care.

The Conservatives have pledged a moratorium on local reconfigurations and plans to transfer some trauma, maternity and paediatric services from Warwick Hospital to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Trust, in Labour-held Coventry North East.

The 2006 Coventry and Warwickshire acute services review also proposed the closure of George Eliot Hospital’s special care baby unit. This is now “deferred for the time being”.

  • Please don't pay party politics with the NHS, we must use the clinical evidence to shape the configuration of services and not what "wins" votes.
