Artificial intelligence Revolutionising Stroke Care and Improving Stroke Thrombectomy Access

Partnered by

agito

The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Foundation Trust has introduced RAPID AI technology to transform its stroke diagnostic pathway. The artificial intelligence platform uses perfusion imaging to extend the treatment window for mechanical thrombectomy from six to 24 hours after symptom onset.

This quadruples the timeframe for removing blood clots from blocked brain arteries, potentially helping more patients who arrive outside traditional treatment windows.

The technology analyses brain scans to identify salvageable tissue, helping clinicians determine suitable candidates for intervention. The implementation aligns with NICE guidance and National Optimal Stroke Imaging Pathway objectives, supporting improved recovery rates.
