The winners of the 2019 HSJ Partnership Awards have been announced during a ceremony at London’s Park Plaza Westminster hotel.

Among the organisations recognised were PwC and North Bristol Trust. Their use of a behavioural change methodology is credited with releasing 50 beds and enabling a 10.2 per cent improvement in performance against the four-hour target. The project won the Best Clinical Service and Treatment Pathway Transformation Project award.

Zilico Ltd and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust were the winners in the Medical Device or Hardware Innovation Award category. Their work together led to the development of a new method of assessing the structure of cervical tissue. The resulting technology, ZedScan, is said to detect 13.25 per cent more high grade pre-cancerous abnormalities in women referred for colposcopy than the procedure alone.

The award for Best Not for Profit Working in Partnership with the NHS, meanwhile, went to Breast Cancer Care. The charity’s Moving Forward programme supports patients at the end of treatment.

The awards – now in their second year – are designed to celebrate the most effective partnership between the private sector, third sector and the health service.

“They shine a spotlight on efforts which are often unseen but are essential,” said HSJ editor and awards host Alastair McLellan.
