Caring for Speak Up Ambassadors - Improving our Speak Up Culture

Sussex Community Foundation Trust is striving to continually improve its reach and response to speaking up. A particular focus in 2021-22 has been on supporting and developing the Freedom to Speak Up Ambassadors and a programme of restorative supervision has been implemented with a Professional Nurse Advocate. The Freedom to Speak Up Guardian is fully integrated into the Quality and Safety team, with an emphasis on strengthening links with Patient Safety for triangulating information focusing on alignment of approach. The judges said they would feel safe in an organisation that had this level of focus, professionalism and care. They commended the ambassadors for speaking up about their experiences and how the role has supported speaking up in the trust and patient safety.
