Preventing the Unpredictable: A Wales-Based Service Transforming Immunotherapy Safety with National Reach and Global Impact

The South East Wales Immunotherapy Toxicity Service is a regional, specialist-led model designed to improve the recognition and management of immune-related adverse events. Established in 2022, it delivers rapid access to expert care through a 24/7 triage system, multidisciplinary working and ambulatory treatment pathways. Supporting over 1,100 patients, the service has achieved a 65 per cent reduction in toxicity-related emergency admissions and delivered significant system efficiencies. By embedding early intervention, standardised pathways and collaboration across organisations, the service has transformed a fragmented, reactive model into a proactive, high-value patient safety programme with demonstrable clinical and operational impact.
