MAGIC: The Management of Acute Emergencies in GP Surgeries Using In-situ Simulation and Checklists

Emergencies in primary care are common and often stressful, yet there is limited approved guidance or standardised management in general practice, creating a patient‑safety concern. To address this, the MAGIC project developed checklists for 15 frequent primary‑care emergencies, drawing on multidisciplinary expertise and adopting the Quick Reference Handbook (QRH) format used in other clinical specialties. Testing of the GP‑QRH showed consistently high usefulness ratings across all professional groups. The organisers are now collaborating with the Royal College of Paramedics to support national rollout, focusing on training trainers and integrating the GP‑QRH into primary‑care education through in‑situ simulation.
