Tailored risk assessment and forecasting in intermittent claudication

TRAFIC is a decision support tool for intermittent claudication that gives each patient a clear, personalised risk for every treatment option, helping prevent progression to chronic limb‑threatening ischaemia, the NHS’s costliest cardiovascular event. Using multimodal data (clinical, imaging and walking tests) with explainable AI, it consistently outperforms even expert clinicians and traditional statistical models. Co‑designed with patients and nurses, TRAFIC makes guideline‑based care easier, reduces unwarranted variation and improves shared decisions. Built for EMR integration, it has the potential to scale across vascular networks to deliver earlier intervention, better outcomes and value for patients, staff and systems.
