University Hospitals of North Midlands: Empowering Stroke Care - Enhancing Thrombectomy Access Through AI-Driven Clinical Pathways

The University Hospitals of North Midlands is revolutionising its stroke thrombectomy pathway through the integration of RAPID AI software. This cutting-edge technology extends the treatment window for mechanical thrombectomy from six to 24 hours post-symptom onset, significantly enhancing patient outcomes. In 2023, UHNM treated 12.83 per cent of ischaemic stroke admissions, exceeding the national target of 10 per cent, while only 4.3 per cent of stroke patients in England receive this treatment. Key achievements include improved patient access, enhanced recovery rates, NICE endorsement, and alignment with National Optimal Stroke Imaging Pathway initiatives, ultimately raising the standard of care for stroke patients across the region.
