Shropshire Community Health Trust: Automating School-Age Immunisation Consent Processes Using Conversational AI

The trust collaborated with EBO to create an AI-driven Virtual Assistant (‘the Rio VA’) to manage vaccination consent. From paper-heavy, manual, time-consuming processes to a fully automated, redesigned workflow, this “first-of-type” e-consent solution was co-designed with frontline staff to deliver significant productivity and efficiency gains. Using Conversational AI, the assistant converses with parents/guardians, integrating bi-directionally with the Rio electronic patient record. Consents are automatically populated into the EPR, automating triage and allocation. In the past 12 months, it has generated 97 per cent user satisfaction, a 94 per cent adoption rate, automated 43,000 consent returns and freed up 8,726 hours of staff time.
