South Warwickshire University Foundation Trust: Implementation of LOLA, a Virtual Clinical Assistant, to Reduce Waiting Lists and Free up Clinical Capacity
The Wheelchair Service team at SWFT implemented an AI virtual assistant (LOLA) in order to help them manage the growing list of referrals coming into the service. Since LOLA was implemented in November 2023, the service has been able to clear their referral backlog that was awaiting screening, reduce their referral to treatment time by more than four times for their routine referrals and provide a more efficient and consistent service across the board. Overall, patient and staff satisfaction have improved, demonstrating how technology can be leveraged in a safe and effective way to improve service provision within the NHS.
