University Hospitals of North Midlands: Optimising Clinical Pathways Through Artificial Intelligence to Improve Stroke Thrombectomy Access
The University Hospitals of North Midlands is optimising its stroke thrombectomy pathway by integrating RAPID AI software. This innovative technology extends the treatment window for mechanical thrombectomy from six to 24 hours post-symptom onset, significantly improving patient outcomes. While only 4.3 per cent of stroke patients in England currently receive thrombectomy, UHNM successfully treated 12.83 per cent of ischaemic stroke admissions in 2023, surpassing the national target of 10 per cent. Key benefits include an extended treatment window, increased patient access, improved recovery rates, NICE support, and alignment with NOSIP initiatives, ultimately enhancing the quality of care for stroke patients.
