University Hospitals Plymouth: X-Ray Car (Mobile X-Ray Service)
A novel and innovative pathway for vulnerable and elderly patients that helps to avoid an ambulance conveyance to the emergency department where this may be unnecessary. The X-Ray Car service sends the X-ray to the patient to rule out fractures and to provide wraparound community care to manage more conservative injuries, keeping patients safe and at home. Using new mobile X-ray technology, trained radiographers supported clinically by acute GPs and emergency department physicians, the car team provides an on-the-spot X-ray and a true MDT approach to bespoke patient follow-up and community support.
